Help stop the Summer Slide by encouraging your child to read every day during the school holidays.
Research tells us that children who read for at least 10 minutes a day over the summer holidays have a better start to the new school year than children who spend little or no time reading. Reading over the holidays helps children maintain or improve the reading level that they developed through the school year. Kids who don't read over the summer holidays can lose core reading skills and slide backwards, potentially falling behind when they return to school.
Keep the reading momentum rolling all summer long with the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge.
Encourage your child to read every day over the school holidays and lodge their Reading Minutes in the ultimate Summer Reading Challenge—Power-Up with Books!
The Power-Up with Books reading challenge has been designed as a fun way to reward and encourage kids to read by collecting badges as they progress. Exciting new badges to choose from are revealed weekly, so we encourage students to log their minutes regularly during the school holidays.
Three entrants (one from each age category) with the highest reading minutes will win awesome prize packs each worth over $800! Competition opens on 1 December 2016 and closes 31 February, 2017.
